Purchasing audiobook listening time

Some Premium plans include monthly audiobook listening time from the audiobooks subscriber catalog (see table below). To get more audiobook listening time, you can:

  • Subscribe to a monthly Audiobooks+ add-on
  • Purchase a one-time top-up

Note: Family and Duo plan members must request audiobook listening time from their plan manager via the “Audiobooks+ for Plan Members” add-on or via a top-up.

Audiobooks+ add-ons

Audiobooks+ is a recurring add-on subscription added to your Premium plan. Its price is added to your monthly Premium subscription in one bill.

  • Audiobooks+ adds extra audiobook listening hours to your own Premium plan each month
  • Audiobooks+ for Plan Members lets plan managers add audiobook listening time for Duo or Family plan members each month
  • You can subscribe to add-ons with a credit/debit card, PayPal, or Google Play Billing.

    1. Go to Available subscriptions.
    2. Check the Add-ons tab to see what’s available to you.
    3. Select Add next to the chosen add-on, and follow the steps to complete the purchase.

    Note: Adding Audiobooks+ moves your billing date forward, and your Premium subscription cost will be adjusted proportionally. If you cancel your Premium subscription, you’ll lose access to any purchased add-ons.

Audiobook top-ups

Top-ups are one-time purchases and provide extra audiobook listening hours. They’re valid for 12 months from the purchase date, and you can add more than one at a time.

Top-ups are used only when your monthly plan and Audiobooks+ add-on hours run out.

  • You can purchase top-ups with a credit/debit card, PayPal, or through Google Play Billing.

    1. Go to Audiobook listening time.
    2. Under Top-ups, select Top up.

    Notes:

    • You must have an eligible Premium plan to use your top-up hours
    • If you cancel your subscription, you’ll no longer have access to your top-up hours unless you resubscribe within 12 months of purchasing the top-up
    • Your top-up hours will still be subject to their original expiration date

Managing audiobook listening time for Family and Duo plans

Only plan managers can purchase add-ons and top-ups for Family and Duo plan members.

If you’re the plan manager

  • You can purchase a recurring add-on for your Family or Duo plan members with a credit/debit card, PayPal, or through Google Play Billing.

    Note: If you pay with Google Play Billing, you can only purchase Audiobooks+ for one of your plan members.

    1. Go to Available Subscriptions.
    2. Go to the Add-ons tab, and select Add next to the chosen add-on.
    3. Select the member(s) you want to give an add-on to, and tap Continue.
    4. Review your new subscription details, and tap Add to subscription.
  • You can purchase one-time top-ups for your Family or Duo plan members with a credit/debit card, PayPal, or through Google Play Billing.

    1. Go to Manage members.
    2. Scroll to Plan members, and select the member(s) you want to give top-ups to.
    3. Under Manage audiobook listening, select Purchase.

    Note: If a member leaves their Family or Duo plan, they’ll lose access to any purchased top-ups. They can use top-ups again if they rejoin the plan or start an eligible subscription. Top-ups will still be subject to their original expiration date.

If you’re a plan member

  • Only the manager of Premium Family or Duo can subscribe members to a recurring Audiobooks+ for Plan Members add-on, but plan members can request it through the app or their account page.

    For each request, the plan manager receives an email and an in-app notification.

    Note: If a member leaves their Family or Duo plan, the add-on will be removed from the subscription and the member will lose access to any add-ons.

    Mobile

    1. Tap your profile picture.
    2. Tap Your Premium.
    3. Select Manage.
    4. Select Explore plans.
    5. Select the Add-ons tab.
    6. Tap Request next to the chosen add-on.
    7. Tap Request access to notify your plan manager.

    Web

    1. Go to Available subscriptions.
    2. Under the Add-ons tab, select Request next to the chosen add-on.
    3. Select Request access to notify your plan manager.

Viewing audiobook listening details

You can view the details of available audiobook listening time on your account:

  • Listening hours remaining (including any add-on hours if applicable)
  • Expiry date for all unused top-ups

Note: Once you’ve used up a top-up, the details are automatically removed from this view.

    1. Tap your profile picture at the top.
    2. Tap Your Premium.
    3. Select Audiobook listening time.

Canceling audiobook listening hours

You can cancel at any time.

  • If you cancel your Premium subscription: You'll lose access to any purchased add-ons and any unused top-up hours.
  • If you cancel an Audiobooks+ add-on: You'll lose the extra monthly add-on hours but keep your plan's included hours.
  • If you cancel a top-up: If you resubscribe within 12 months of purchasing a top-up, your remaining top-up hours become available again (still subject to their original expiration date).
  • If a plan member leaves Family or Duo: The member loses access to any add-ons and top-ups purchased for them. Top-ups can be used again if they rejoin the plan or start an eligible subscription (still subject to the original expiration date).
