Content policy for uploading videos in Spotify for Artists

Performance videos are full-length videos showcasing a song from a concert, studio session, or unplugged set. A limited group of artists have access to upload these videos through Spotify for Artists. Learn more.

Types of performance video to upload

Supported performance video types include:

  • Live performances
  • Acoustic or studio sessions
  • Covers
  • Alternate versions, like dance videos

We do not currently support:

  • Videos with multiple songs, including full concerts: If your video includes more than 1 song in a single performance, split it into separate videos and upload each song’s performance on its own
  • Official music videos: Coordinate delivery of your official music videos through your label or distributor
  • Visualizers or lyric videos
  • Videos without music

Quality control

Make sure your performance videos comply with our quality specifications. We may remove blurry videos or other videos that aren't technically compliant with our platform.

No prohibited content

Performance videos that don't comply with the Spotify Platform Rules and User Guidelines will be removed. This includes, but is not limited to, content that:

  • Is abusive towards an individual or group
  • Threatens violence
  • Promotes child exploitation
  • Is deceptive in a way that elevates a risk of harm
  • Incites violence against those of a protected characteristic

Legally compliant

Make sure your performance video complies with the law, and that you have all rights to use and post the content in the video. For the music in your video, you must have all rights and clearances to include and post it on the Spotify platform.

18+ content

Even if your content is permissible under our Platform Rules, it still may not be appropriate for all audiences. To ensure your video is viewed by age-appropriate audiences, you should add an "18+" tag when it's not appropriate for viewers under the age of 18.

When deciding whether to add the “18+ tag” to your video content, you should consider whether it prominently features any of the below imagery or visual themes in a prolonged or particularly intense manner:

  • Suicide and self-harm, including disordered eating
  • Substance use, misuse, or abuse
  • Graphic, shocking, or violent content
  • Sexual content & nudity
  • Repeated or prolonged visual profanity or vulgar language

Explicit content

You should mark such content as Explicit to help protect your fans from seeing and hearing content with which they may not be comfortable. This is particularly important to protect younger users on Spotify.

Your content should be marked as explicit if it contains:

  • Profanity
  • Imagery of or references to violence, physical abuse, or mental abuse
  • Imagery of or references to the use of recreational drugs or other controlled substances
  • Imagery of or references to sexual behavior
  • Imagery of or references to sensitive topics

There’s no definitive guide to what makes content explicit, so we suggest you err on the side of caution.
