Listening Activity
Listening activity shows what music your friends are listening to on Spotify.
On mobile, friends can also react to the tracks you’re playing and ask to Jam.
View your friend’s listening activity
- Tap your profile picture at the top.
- Scroll down to the carousel with your friends’ profile pictures to view their currently playing or last played song.
Note: Your friends will only appear in the carousel if they’ve enabled their own listening activity.
Alternatively, you can scroll down to Messages.
- Tap on a chat. Your friend’s currently playing or last played song appears under their name if they’ve enabled their own listening activity.
- From there, you can tap the track to:
- Play the song
- Add it to Your Library
- Send a reaction
- Start or join a Jam
You can view your friend’s listening activity by tapping Listening Activity at the top, next to your profile picture.
Show your listening activity
Your listening activity is turned off by default. You can enable or disable it by following the steps below.
- Tap your profile picture at the top.
- Tap Settings and privacy

- Tap Privacy and social.
- Turn Listening activity on
, or off
.
You can also select Who can see your activity to manage who views your listening activity while it’s enabled.
- You can choose to turn your activity off for followers and select friends.
- For group messages, you can choose who in the group can see your listening activity through the Chat settings.
- Click your profile picture at the top, and select Settings.
- Under Listening Activity and insights, switch Listening activity on
, or off
.
You can also select Who can see your activity to manage who views your listening activity while it’s enabled.
- You can choose to turn your activity off for followers and select friends.
- You may need to use the mobile app to manually select from your friends list.
Notes:
- These settings apply across all of your devices.
- If Private session is on, your listening activity is automatically disabled for 6 hours.
- Even if your own listening activity is turned off, you can still view the activity of your friends as long as they have their listening activity enabled.
Listening Activity not updating?
Listening Activity might not update in real time. If you notice it hasn’t updated for a while:
- Check the app is up-to-date
- Check your device’s operating system is up-to-date
- Restart the app
- Log out of Spotify, then log back in
- Reinstall the app
