AI Persona badges on Spotify
AI Persona badges help listeners understand when an artist’s public identity is AI-generated.
You can self-disclose as an AI Persona in Spotify for Artists. If you do, an AI Persona badge will appear on your artist profile as badges roll out starting this fall. We’ll also review artist profiles and identify those whose public identity – the identity an artist presents on their profile including name and imagery – appears to represent photorealistic AI-generated identities. We’ll start with artists who have met defined audience thresholds, which allows us to conduct thorough, accurate reviews while maintaining a manageable pool of artist profiles.
Starting this fall, listeners will begin to see the AI Persona badge across artist profiles and can click on the badge to learn more about what it means. There will be two versions of the badge depending on how the disclosure was made:
- "AI persona": the artist has chosen to identify themselves as an AI persona through Spotify for Artists.
- “Likely AI Persona": Spotify has reviewed and identified that this artist's profile represents an AI-generated identity.
Music from AI Personas will not be included in any editorial or algorithmic recommendations, unless a listener shows intentional engagement signals, like following an AI Persona artist, for example.
Understanding AI Personas
An AI Persona is an artist whose public identity represents an AI-generated photorealistic human.
You may want to identify that your artist profile represents an AI Persona if the identity you present on Spotify isn't based on a real person. This includes AI-generated profile images, header images, album artwork, or other visual elements that represent the artist.
This badge is about your public identity, not about how your music was made.
To share more about how your music was made, you can add AI credits to your music through your distributor. Learn more about AI credits.
Note: AI credits are currently rolling out to more content providers. Contact your label or distributor to find out if they're available.
Seeing where AI Persona badges appear
Starting this fall, AI Persona badges will appear:
- Next to the artist name on the artist profile
- In the Artist Badges section of the About Page on the artist profile
- Next to the artist name in Search (on mobile)
- Next to the artist name in track rows across playlists
Self-disclosing as an AI Persona
To identify your artist profile represents an AI Persona:
- Log in to artists.spotify.com.
- Go to Artist Settings.
- Select Profile & Identity.
- Turn on the AI Persona setting.
- Select Update.
Note: AI Persona badges are rolling out to listeners starting this fall. You can self-disclose now, and your badge will appear on Spotify once it's available.
You can't remove a self-disclosed AI Persona badge in Spotify for Artists. If you need to remove it, contact us.
Responding to a Spotify-applied badge
Starting this fall, badges will begin to appear to listeners on Spotify. If we apply an AI Persona badge to your artist profile, you'll receive a notification in Spotify for Artists.
You can either:
- Confirm the badge by self-disclosing your artist as an AI Persona in Spotify for Artists. Your profile’s About Page will then show the AI Persona badge instead of Likely AI Persona.
- Appeal the decision if you believe the badge was applied in error. If you don't take action, the Likely AI Persona badge remains on your profile.
Steps on how to appeal will be available in Spotify for Artists.
If you later change your artist name, profile image, bio, or other identity information, we may review your profile again.
Note: You can't remove a Spotify-applied Likely AI Persona badge yourself. We make all final decisions after reviewing the available information.
