Managed accounts for young listeners

This article describes the managed account experience to young listeners. If you’re a parent or legal guardian, check out Managed accounts for young listeners.

Young listeners like you can listen to music on Spotify too.

Your parent or guardian can create a managed account. Then you can:

  • Enjoy songs and playlists
  • Use your managed account on your own device
  • Pick an avatar

Your parent or guardian can also block some music, and decide if you can watch videos and Canvas.

Log in to your account

When your parent or guardian creates your managed account, they:

  • Set a PIN to control features only they can use
  • Enter your name and birthday
  • Choose the kind of music and videos you can play

Then, they can log in for you on your or their device.

Your parent or guardian can’t log in?

Make sure they update the Spotify app to the latest version.

Change account to a managed account

Ask your parent or guardian to help change your Spotify account to a managed account. We’ll send you an email if this happens.

To change it back, talk to your parent or guardian.

Profile

Your parent or guardian can add your name to your profile. You can pick an avatar yourself:

  1. Tap your profile picture at the top.
  2. Tap View profile.
  3. Tap Edit and the pencil icon Edit.
  4. Pick a profile picture and tap Done.

Notes:

  • Your profile can be seen by anyone on your shared device
  • Your profile can’t be found by others on Spotify
  • If you share a playlist with others, they can also see your name and avatar (if you picked one)

Find and play music

There’s lots of music for you to explore on Spotify. Keep in mind that:

  • You can find and play music
  • You can’t find playlists made by others
  • You can’t play music or videos your parent or guardian has turned off

Note: If there’s an artist or song you can’t play, check with your parent or guardian.

Share playlists

You can make playlists and find them in Your Library.

If you make a playlist, others on Spotify can't find it.

You can share a link to the playlist with others who will then be able to:

  • See your playlist and how you described it
  • See your name and avatar (if you picked one)

You can also receive a link to a playlist made by others and join it. When you do, others will be able to see your name and avatar (if you picked one) as well.

Check with your parent or guardian before you share a playlist, or play one you receive. They can help you report any content you think is inappropriate.
