Privacy and social controls
With our Privacy and Social settings, you can control the information that you show to others on your profile. Here’s how:
- Tap your profile picture at the top.
- Tap Settings and privacy

- Scroll and tap Privacy and Social.
- Use the toggles to control access to your profile and your listening activity.
- Followers & following - Turn this on to allow Spotify listeners to see what other listeners you follow and which listeners follow you. Default: on (for those 18 or older), default: off (for those younger than 18)
- Private session - If the Listening activity toggle (below) is on, you can turn this one on to temporarily hide your listening activity from your followers up until you turn this off, or if you restart your app. This automatically resets after 6 hours. Default: off (for those 18 or older), default: off (for those younger than 18)
- Listening activity - Turn this on to share your listening activity to your followers’ Friend Activity feed. Private session (above) overrides this temporarily. Default: on (for those 18 or older), default: off (for those younger than 18)
- Recently played artists - Turn this on to have highlights of your recent listening activity show on your Spotify profile. Default: on (for those 18 or older), default: off (for those younger than 18)
- Blocked users - Tap this to access the list of accounts you blocked. You can unblock any accounts.
- Public playlists - Turn this on to make new playlists that you create visible and accessible to anyone on Spotify. Private playlists can still be shared directly with people for individual access.
- Playlists appear on your profile - Turn this on to make your new playlists visible on your profile automatically. Privacy settings still apply, so if someone doesn’t have access to a playlist, they still won’t be able to view it even if it’s shown on your profile.
- Jam access with Bluetooth - Tap Activate to use Bluetooth to find and connect to nearby devices.
- Click your profile picture at the top, and select Settings.
- Scroll down to Social.
- Use the toggles to control access to your profile and your listening activity.
- Start a private session - If the Share my listening activity toggle (below) is on, you can turn this one on to temporarily hide your listening activity from your followers up until you turn this off, or if you restart your app. This automatically resets after 6 hours. - Show my follower and following lists on my public profile - Turn this on from the mobile settings to allow Spotify listeners to see what other listeners you follow and which listeners follow you. Default: on (for those 18 or older), default: off (for those younger than 18)
Protecting the privacy of users under 18
If you are under 18, seek the advice of a guardian before changing a Privacy and Social setting.
