Understanding Overview analytics

Your main performance analytics live on the Overview tab for your show and individual episodes.

You can export data from each section as a CSV file.

Show performance

To view your show-level analytics overview:

  1. Log in to creators.spotify.com
  2. Go to Analytics.
  3. Select Overview.

You’ll have the option to choose a certain date range for your data, depending on how long your show has been publishing episodes.

Show metrics

For each metric, you can see how much data comes from Spotify and how much comes from other platforms where your show is available. You’ll only see data from other platforms if you’re hosted with Spotify for Creators.

  • Plays: The number of times any episode of your show was watched or listened to for at least 30 seconds on Spotify during the selected time period. Plays come from Spotify only.
  • Downloads: The number of times any episode of your show has been downloaded via your show's RSS feed on any podcast platform. You’ll only see Downloads if you’re hosted with Spotify for Creators.
  • Plays & downloads: The number of times any episode of your show was watched or listened to for at least 30 seconds on Spotify, or downloaded on any platform, during the selected time period.
  • Audience: The number of unique people that played or downloaded any episode of your show on any platform during the selected time period. Since some people might play multiple episodes or play 1 episode multiple times, your audience will always be smaller than your plays & downloads.

Comparing episodes with Trends

The Trends tool helps you compare episodes and identify performance patterns.

You can:

  • Compare up to 5 episodes at a time.
  • Compare each episode against the normal range of your recent episodes.
  • Filter by metrics such as plays & downloads, consumption time, comments, and more.

Episode performance

To view analytics for an episode:

  1. Log in to creators.spotify.com
  2. Go to Episodes.
  3. Select an episode.
  4. Under Analytics, select Overview.

You’ll find sections for analytics related to general performance, engagement, and consumption on Spotify.

You’ll have the option to choose a certain date range for your data, depending on when you published your episode.

For video episodes, you’ll also see video-specific analytics.

Benchmarks

Some metrics include benchmarks, such as “Above normal range.” Benchmarks compare the selected episode with your most recently published episodes for the chosen metric.

  • Normal Range: A range centered on median episode performance. Episodes in this range are performing as expected for your show.
  • Performance: How your selected episode performs compared to your other episodes. The percentage above or below normal is measured from the middle of the normal range, which is your median episode performance.

You’ll need to have at least 10 episodes published in order to have benchmarks appear on your episodes. Benchmarks compare the latest values for a given metric against the median across recent episodes of your show.

Keep in mind that benchmarks:

  • Update throughout the day as consumption data increases or changes, so values may shift as the day progresses.
  • Don’t display on the day an episode is published. They appear only after the first full day of data has been collected.
  • Measure your episodes’ performances for up to 30 days after publishing.

Data refresh

Most analytics update every 15 minutes, but some metrics may take up to 48 hours to refresh in Spotify for Creators.
