Quality control

Make sure your videos comply with our quality specifications. We may remove blurry videos or other videos that aren't technically compliant with our platform.

No prohibited content

Videos that don't comply with the Spotify Platform Rules and User Guidelines will be removed. This includes, but is not limited to, content that:

  • Is abusive towards an individual or group
  • Threatens violence
  • Promotes child exploitation
  • Is deceptive in a way that elevates a risk of harm
  • Incites violence against those of a protected characteristic

Legal compliance

Make sure your video complies with the law, and that you have all rights to use and post the content in the video.

For the music in your video, you must have all rights and clearances to include and post it on the Spotify platform.

18+ content

Even if your content is permissible under our Platform Rules, it still may not be appropriate for all audiences. To help ensure your video is shown to age-appropriate audiences, add an 18+ tag when it isn't appropriate for viewers under 18.

When deciding whether to add an 18+ tag, consider whether your video prominently features any of the following imagery or visual themes in a prolonged or particularly intense manner:

  • Suicide and self-harm, including disordered eating
  • Substance use, misuse, or abuse
  • Graphic, shocking, or violent content
  • Sexual content and nudity
  • Repeated or prolonged visual profanity or vulgar language

Explicit content

Mark content as explicit to help protect listeners from seeing and hearing content they may not be comfortable with. This is particularly important for younger listeners on Spotify.

Your content should be marked as explicit if it contains:

  • Profanity
  • Imagery of or references to violence, physical abuse, or mental abuse
  • Imagery of or references to the use of recreational drugs or other controlled substances
  • Imagery of or references to sexual behavior
  • Imagery of or references to sensitive topics

There's no definitive guide to what makes content explicit, so we suggest erring on the side of caution.
