AI Usage Limits and Pro credits
What is a usage limit?
Some AI features on Spotify have usage limits. This means there's a maximum amount that you can use in a set time period. We have usage limits to keep AI features available and running well for everyone. Usage limits may change for a particular feature as we test, learn, and scale to more listeners.
How are usage limits applied?
Each time you use an AI feature with a usage limit, it draws from the usage total available to you for that AI feature. The amount of usage used at a time depends on the feature and what you're asking it to do. Some requests are more intensive than others. Because of this, there's not a fixed amount you'll use per prompt.
What counts as an intensive request?
Simple requests use less of your limit, while complex, multi-step requests use more. For example, asking Spotify to build a playlist matched to your taste profile and local concert schedule draws more from your limit than a basic song search.
Note: For example when using Studio, the more Studio has to think, create, or build on your behalf, the more it draws from your limit. Asking a quick question or getting a song recommendation uses less, while asking Studio to research a topic, browse the web, or build a podcast from scratch uses more.
What happens when I reach my usage limit?
You'll see a message in the feature letting you know. Depending on the feature, you can wait for your limit to reset or you may be able to purchase additional usage via a one-time purchase.
What should I know about Pro credits?
Pro credits is the term we use for purchased access to certain AI features that have usage limits. Here is how they work:
- Premium users are able to use certain AI features up to a usage limit, depending on the feature.
- When you hit the usage limit for a particular feature, you can purchase Pro credits for additional use.
- You must have an eligible Premium plan to buy and use Pro credits.
- Pro credits are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and expire after that - they don’t roll over. Your included subscription usage is always consumed first before any Pro credits.
- If you cancel your subscription, you’ll lose access to your Pro credits. If you resubscribe within 12 months of your Pro credit purchase date, your Pro credits will be restored, but will still be subject to their original expiration date.
Note: Pro credits hold no value and aren't legal tender, currency, or redeemable for cash. Pro credits are personal to you and can't be sold, gifted, or transferred to others. All Pro credits are non-refundable except when unused within the first 7 days after purchase or when required by applicable law. Spotify may also limit how much additional usage you can purchase in a single day. Terms and Conditions apply.
How to check my Pro credits usage
You can find your Pro credits usage in your account management page on your Spotify web app only. This doesn’t show usage allowance included in your Premium subscription, only Pro credits that you have purchased.
