AI Persona badges on Spotify

AI Persona badges help listeners understand when an artist’s public identity is AI-generated.

You can self-disclose as an AI Persona in Spotify for Artists. If you do, an AI Persona badge appears on your artist profile. We also review artist profiles and identify those whose public identity, including their name and imagery, appears to represent a photorealistic AI-generated identity.

We started with artists who have met defined audience thresholds, which allows us to conduct thorough, accurate reviews while maintaining a manageable pool of artist profiles.

The AI Persona badge doesn’t apply if you only use AI tools to make your music, but your artist profile represents a real person, stage name, or fictional character that isn’t an AI-generated photorealistic person.

Where the badge appears

The AI Persona badge appears across Spotify:

  • Next to the artist name on their artist profile and in Now Playing View
  • Next to the artist name in Search
  • Next to the artist name on track rows in playlists

The Artist Badges section in About shows more information about the AI Persona:

  • AI Persona: The artist identified themselves as an AI Persona through Spotify for Artists
  • Likely AI Persona: We reviewed the artist and determined that their profile represents an AI-generated identity

When listeners tap the AI Persona badge they’ll be able to see whether the artist transparently shared that they’re an AI Persona to build trust with potential listeners, or if Spotify had to review and make an informed determination.

Music from AI Personas isn’t included in editorial or personalized recommendations unless a listener intentionally engages with the artist, for example by following them.

Note: AI Persona badges are gradually rolling out in the Spotify app, so you might not see them yet.

Understanding AI Personas

An AI Persona is an artist whose public identity represents an AI-generated photorealistic human.

The AI Persona badge is about the identity you present as an artist, not whether you use AI to make your music.

Your artist profile may represent an AI Persona if the artist imagery itself is AI-generated and appears to be a real person who doesn't exist. This includes AI-generated profile images, header images, album artwork, or other visual elements that represent the artist.

Self-disclosing as an AI Persona

How to self-disclose

You can't turn off the AI Persona setting yourself after you self-disclose. Only turn it on if you're sure your artist profile represents an AI Persona.

To identify your artist profile as an AI Persona:

  1. Log in to artists.spotify.com.
  2. Go to Artist Settings.
  3. Select Profile & Identity.
  4. Turn on AI Persona.
  5. Select Update.

Note: AI Persona badges are visible to listeners. When you self-disclose, your badge appears on Spotify soon after.

The AI Persona badge doesn’t apply if you:

  • Use AI tools to make your music, but your artist profile represents a real person
  • Use a stage name or fictional character that doesn’t depict an AI-generated photorealistic person

To share more about how your music was made, you can add AI credits to your music through your distributor. AI credits and AI Persona badges are separate. Learn more about AI credits.

Note: AI credits are currently rolling out to more content providers. Contact your label or distributor to find out if they're available.

Accidentally self-disclosed?

You can't remove a self-disclosed AI Persona badge yourself in Spotify for Artists. If you turned on the setting by mistake, contact us.

Responding to a Spotify-applied badge

AI Persona badges appear to listeners on Spotify. If we apply a Likely AI Persona badge to your artist profile, you receive a notification in Spotify for Artists.

You can either:

  • Confirm the badge by self-disclosing your artist as an AI Persona in Spotify for Artists. Your profile’s About Page then shows the AI Persona badge instead of Likely AI Persona
  • Appeal the decision if you believe the badge was applied in error. If you don't take action, the Likely AI Persona badge remains on your profile

Steps on how to appeal are available in Spotify for Artists.

If you later change your artist name, profile image, bio, or other identity information, we may review your profile again.

Note: You can't remove a Spotify-applied Likely AI Persona badge yourself. We make all final decisions after reviewing the available information.

Seeing where AI Persona badges appear
