Audiobooks in Premium plans

Some Premium plans include monthly audiobook listening time from our subscriber catalog.

The number of hours included varies per country and renews automatically each billing cycle.

  • Audiobook listening time is an allotted amount of time, included on a monthly basis for certain Premium plans, that lets subscribers listen to audiobooks from our audiobooks subscriber catalog. As you listen to any of these audiobooks, the audiobook listening time remaining for that month decreases.

  • The following plans include monthly listening time from the audiobooks subscriber catalog:

    • Premium Individual
    • Premium Family (plan manager only)
    • Premium Duo (plan manager only)

Note: The Premium Student plan doesn't include audiobook listening time.

  • Only the plan manager has access to audiobook listening time from our audiobooks subscriber catalog.

It’s not possible to share audiobook listening time included in your plan with the plan member/s, but as a plan manager, you can purchase their own audiobook listening time allowance.

  • We count the audiobook listening time used based on each playback of an audiobook at normal speed. This means:

    • Adjusting the speed of the playback won’t affect the amount of audiobook listening time included/remaining in your allocation; and
    • If you relisten to a book, or part of the book, your listening time will continue to reduce as normal.

For example, if you listen to a 5-hour audiobook at 2x speed, even if you finish the audiobook in 2.5 hours, your audiobook listening time is reduced by 5 hours since that's the length of the book at normal speed. If you relisten to the whole book, your listening time is reduced by another 5 hours.

Note: If you've paid to unlock an audiobook separately, listening to it won't count towards your listening time.

We may, from time to time, adjust the audiobook listening time included in your monthly allocation, and we will provide reasonable notice to you in advance of such changes.

  • Yes, your plan’s unused audiobook listening time expires on a monthly basis.

At the start of your next billing period:

    • We renew the hours of audiobook listening time included in your plan; and
    • Any unused audiobook listening time from the previous month can no longer be used.

Note: We don’t offer refunds for unused or expired audiobook listening time.

  • You won't be able to listen to audiobooks from the subscriber catalog until you replenish your listening time.

If you’ve run out of audiobook listening time in your plan, or you just want more time to listen, you can purchase audiobook listening hours.

If you run out mid-chapter, the app will let you know and suggest ways to get more hours. Your progress in the audiobook is saved, so you can pick up where you left off.

  • You can check how much audiobook listening time is left in the plan and how long before your listening hours are renewed.

Note: There might be some delays in tracking the audiobook listening time you’ve used if you pause your listening mid-chapter, or you’re offline for an extended period of time.
