Managing artist ad preferences
You can set preferences to indicate which types of ads you’d like to show up or play on your music less often for Spotify Free listeners. We do our best to reduce these ads according to your preferences, though cannot guarantee they will be excluded in all cases.
Setting ad preferences

Use ad preferences to tell us which types of ads you’d like Free listeners to see less often next to your music.
- Log into artists.spotify.com on web
- Go to Home
- Find Artist settings
- Select Ad preferences
- Choose from the available categories
- Save your changes
Your selections apply to your entire catalog, including future releases. Changes can take up to 24 hours to take effect.
Available ad categories
You can choose to have fewer ads from these categories appear on or next to your music:
- Alcohol
- Dating
- Gambling
- Social issues, politics, or government
- Pregnancy or parenting
- Weight loss
Ads from other categories may still appear.
Understanding how ad preferences work
Music ads on Spotify are heard or seen by listeners using Spotify Free. These settings help reduce how often selected ad categories appear on or next to your music. We do our best to apply your ad preferences in all cases. Preferences tend to work best in places where the system has the most context about you as an artist, such as:
- Artist pages
- Album and release pages
- This Is playlists
Why we can’t guarantee ad preferences
Surfaces with multiple artists or limited context mean the ads system may not have enough information to apply your ad preferences. We will still attempt to honor preferences in these cases, but cannot guarantee complete removal.
- Shared listening contexts. Places on Spotify where your music is alongside other artists, such as: Home and Browse surfaces, radio, and editorial or algorithmic playlists like Discover Weekly or Release Radar that feature multiple artists.
- Changing user behavior. Listening sessions where a listener is moving between different artists or surfaces on Spotify.
- Setting your billing country in Spotify for Artists
- Finding receipts for display campaigns
- Verifying personal accounts
- Changing your business email
- Changing language
- Viewing your artist roster and releases
- Label team missing artists or releases
- Notification settings
- Setting your billing contact under a group email
