How to change Premium plans
Pick your plan type for how to change to a new plan.
Note: You keep all your playlists, saved music, and settings no matter which plan you change to or from.
Spotify Premium plans
If you pay for Premium directly through Spotify, you can manage your plan from your account page.
- Go to your account page.
- Under Manage your subscription, click Change plan.
- Choose a plan.
Your subscription will update right away to reflect your new plan.
Note: If you’re upgrading from a free trial, the payment will be taken immediately.
When you change from a Family or Duo plan to a smaller plan, you’ll be asked to choose which members you keep on Premium. Members you didn't select will move to Spotify free on your next billing date.
- Go to your account page.
- Under Subscription, select Manage your subscription.
- Click Change plan.
- Choose a plan, then click Select.
- Select the members you'd like to transfer to your new plan.
- Click Continue.
- Click Confirm.
- Click Update subscription to confirm.
You’ll be charged your new plan price on the day that the credit for your old plan runs out. That day will be your new billing date and that’s when your plan will be updated.
Note: If you’re upgrading from a free trial, the payment will be taken immediately.
Changing your member selection after a scheduled plan change
If you change your mind and want to include someone you didn't originally select, you need to renew your subscription and go through the change plan steps again.
Renewing your subscription clears your earlier member selections and lets you pick a new set of members before your next billing date.
Swapping a kept member for someone new
If you want to replace one of the members you chose to keep, you can remove them at any time. Their account becomes available, and you can invite someone new.
- The new member will get Premium immediately.
- Once invited, the new member will also come with you when your new plan takes effect at your next billing date.
Removing members
You can remove both kept members and non-selected members at any time.
- If you remove a kept member, their account becomes available and you can invite someone new. The new member will get Premium immediately and will come with you when your new plan takes effect at your next billing date.
- If you remove a non-selected member, they move to Spotify free immediately and you can't invite someone new in their place.
You currently need to cancel before you can switch. We’re working on making this easier, but you can follow these steps in the meantime:
- Go to your account page.
- Under Manage your subscription, click Change plan.
- Scroll to Spotify Free and click Cancel Premium.
- Continue through to the confirmation message.
- Now that your account’s on free, you can sign up to any Premium plan at www.spotify.com/premium.
Note: If you’re upgrading from a free trial, your remaining Premium time will be forfeited.
