Reviewing pronunciation for your audiobook

The pronunciation review step lets you control how the digital voice pronounces names, places, acronyms, and other terms in your audiobook.

When you upload your EPUB, Spotify for Authors automatically detects terms that may need pronunciation review.

Reviewing pronunciation suggestions

In the Content step, you can review detected terms and decide whether they need changes.

For each term, you can:

  • Listen to the current pronunciation
  • Add a phonetic spelling if the pronunciation sounds incorrect
  • Skip terms that don’t need pronunciation changes
  • Add names, places, acronyms, or other terms manually

To hear a pronunciation, press play next to the term.

Updating pronunciations

If a pronunciation sounds incorrect, enter a phonetic spelling to change how the voice says the term.

For example:

  • “Bee-YON-say” for Beyoncé

After saving your changes, preview the pronunciation again to confirm the update.

When pronunciations are used

Saved pronunciations are applied to:

  • Chapter previews
  • Your final audiobook

Pronunciation settings stay saved with your project if you return later.

Note: Reviewing pronunciations is an optional step, but we recommend completing it before publishing. To correct pronunciation issues after publishing, you need to generate your audiobook again. Each audiobook project allows up to 4 generations.
