Setting up 2-step verification for Spotify Payouts

2-step verification adds an extra layer of security to your Spotify Payouts account by requiring a second step after you enter your password.

Turning on 2-step verification

We require you to activate 2-step verification if you’ve earned $1,000 USD or more within one month.

If you don’t activate 2-step verification within 30 days of reaching this earnings threshold, your payouts will be placed on hold. If this happens, your earnings will continue to accrue until you’ve activated 2-step verification on your account.

We strongly encourage 2-step verification for increased protection for all creators who use Spotify Payouts - even if they don’t earn more than $1,000 a month.

  1. Log in to accounts.spotify.com.
  2. Select 2-step verification then Set up. You may need to log in again.
  3. Choose whether to enable 2-step verification via an authenticator app or text message (SMS).Tip: You can enable both options by coming back to this page.

Using an authenticator app

  1. Download an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator to your phone.
  2. On your Spotify account page, scan the QR code or enter the activation code to link your authenticator app to Spotify.
  3. Enter the code from your authenticator app.

Tip: Save your backup codes in a secure place. You can use them to log in if you lose your phone.

Using SMS text message

  1. Enter your phone number and hit Send text message.
  2. We’ll send you an SMS with a 6-digit code. Enter the code to complete setup.

Tip: Save your backup codes in a secure place. You can use them to log in if you lose your phone.

You’ll receive an email confirmation once 2-step verification is activated.

Backup codes

If you lose your phone or can't access your authenticator app, you can use a backup code to log in.

You should download or save your backup codes when you set up 2-step verification, and you can also find them at accounts.spotify.com under password protection.

Important info about backup codes:

  • Never share your backup codes
  • Each backup code can only be used once
  • Save your backup codes in a secure place
  • If you’re using a shared computer, don’t download your backup codes. Print or copy them instead

If you think someone else might have access to your backup codes, you can generate new ones:

  1. Log in to accounts.spotify.com.
  2. Select 2-step verification then Edit.
  3. Select Show codes under Backup codes.
  4. Click Generate new codes.

Save your new codes in a secure place.
