Publishing video episodes if you’re not hosted with Spotify

Some podcast hosts support the ability to upload video episodes to Spotify directly from their platforms.

The following hosts currently support video distribution to Spotify for some or all creators:

If you host your show on any of the platforms that support this functionality, you can publish video episodes and, if eligible, monetize them with our existing monetization tools. Your video and audio episodes will be automatically published to Spotify, and your distribution to other platforms won't change.

Reach out to your host if you don’t yet have access to upload videos through their platform.

Monetizing video episodes if you’re not hosted with Spotify for Creators

If you’re hosted with one of our partner platforms, you may be eligible for monetization. Here are your options if your platform has chosen to offer Spotify’s monetization tools:

Spotify Partner Program

The Spotify Partner Program is Spotify's flagship creator monetization program. Enrolled shows earn ad revenue through the Spotify Audience Network (SPAN) and Premium Video Revenue (PVR) based on consumption from Spotify Premium listeners in eligible markets.

If your show is eligible to join, you’ll get access to two sources of revenue depending on who plays your video episodes:

  • Premium video revenue: Premium video revenue gives you the opportunity to earn based on consumption, in addition to ad revenue. When Spotify Premium listeners or viewers play your video episodes, we’ll serve your video episodes uninterrupted by dynamic ads for a better viewing experience. For these plays, you can earn Premium video revenue instead of ad revenue in select markets where the Spotify Partner Program is available.
  • Ads from the Spotify Audience Network: You can earn revenue every time an ad monetized by Spotify plays in your episode on Spotify. You choose where your ad breaks go and Spotify handles the rest. Dynamic ads can appear in all audio episodes as well as in video episodes played by Spotify Free users. In markets where the Spotify Partner Program isn’t available, Spotify Premium users may also hear these ads.

Dynamic Direct Sales

Ads sold directly by you (or your sales representative) to advertisers and delivered dynamically into episodes. These ads are targeted and measured using Spotify's first-party data.

If your hosting platform supports this functionality, you can book your own dynamic direct sales campaigns in your hosting platform and they’ll run on Spotify. This means you can traffic ads that are inserted within a pre-set ad break dynamically.

Troubleshooting video episodes distributed through your host

If you publish video episodes to Spotify through one of the hosting providers listed above and your video episode isn't appearing on Spotify, start by contacting your hosting platform's support team. They can confirm whether your show is successfully published on Spotify.

If your host confirms your video episodes are being distributed from them and the issue persists, your host should reach out directly to Spotify to investigate.

Replace audio episodes with video episodes

If you’re not hosted with one of our partner platforms supporting video distribution, you can still replace existing audio episodes with video, directly on Spotify for Creators.

This feature cannot be used if you’re already distributing video to Spotify through one of the supported partners above. Any audio episodes replaced with video through this option can't be monetized through the monetization options mentioned above.

On web:

  1. Log into creators.spotify.com.
  2. If you have multiple shows, choose your show in the sidebar. Then, select Episodes.
  3. Click the three dots next to an episode, then Upload video.
  4. Choose a video file from your device.
  5. Once your file has fully uploaded, preview your episode.
  6. Click Publish when you're ready.

Video episodes uploaded through Spotify for Creators are only available to your fans on the Spotify apps and web player.

If you offer subscriber-only episodes through one of our Spotify Open Access partner platforms, the video will remain available to subscribers only.
