Understanding the "Skip ahead" button

We’re testing a new feature called “skip ahead” for Spotify Premium subscribers in select markets.

When a Premium subscriber is listening to or watching a podcast with the Spotify app open on their screen, they may notice a temporary “skip ahead” button appear during playback. This button helps listeners easily skip segments they may want to jump past, making it easier for them to navigate podcast episodes and spend more time enjoying the content they love.

  • Yes. On most podcast platforms, users have the ability to skip ahead within an episode. On Spotify, all users today can use the 15-second skip buttons or move through the episode with the playback scrubber. Alongside these existing Spotify app controls, the “skip ahead” button similarly gives Premium subscribers a more intuitive way to navigate podcast episodes.

  • When a Premium subscriber is listening to or watching a podcast with the Spotify app open on their screen, a "skip ahead" button may appear during playback for segments they might want to skip (e.g., intros, outros, ads). Tapping the button advances playback to where that segment ends. The button only appears on the Now Playing View.

  • We’re testing this for some Spotify Premium users in select markets.

  • The button is available on Spotify for iOS and Android on the Now Playing View. It is not available on desktop, web, or connected devices.

  • No, this feature test is tied to the Premium subscriber experience and can not be opted out at the show or organization level.

  • This feature has been designed to enhance the Premium listener experience based on segments people often skip. As we continue testing and learning, we will refine this functionality to be even more personalized and comprehensive.

  • Yes. This feature applies to the segments people might prefer to skip (intros, outros, ads), regardless of content or publisher.
