Spotify on Google Home

There’s no place like Google Home with Spotify.
Play high quality tracks, albums, artists, and playlists, both from our catalog and Your Library, simply by speaking to your Google Home device. You can also use voice commands for multi-room playback and to add tracks to Your Library.

What’s more, you can take control of the music with your phone by using the Spotify app.

Tip: Don’t have Premium? Ask Google Home to play music anyway and it’ll offer you a 7-day free trial!

Link Spotify to your Google Home

If your Spotify account is registered to the same email address on your Google Home, it will offer to link the accounts for you. Simply say ‘yes’!

If it doesn’t detect a Spotify account registered to that email address it prompts you to create a Free account. Say ‘yes’ to go ahead! After this, you’re offered a 7-day Premium trial.

Alternatively, you can login to your Spotify account using the Google Home app:

  1. Download and open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap the menu in the top left and select Settings.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  4. Tap Spotify.
  5. Tap Link Account, then Log in to Spotify.
If you don’t have an account you can create a new one by tapping Sign up to Spotify. After this you’ll need to start the account link process from the beginning.
  6. Log in using your Spotify account details.
  7. Tap OKAY to confirm.

Note: You can only link one Spotify account to your Google Home.

Unlink your Spotify account from your Google Home

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap the menu in the top-left corner.
  3. Tap Settings and select Accounts.
  4. Tap UNLINK.

Play Music

Ask your Google Home to play anything by using voice commands.

Just say "Hey Google", then...

  • "Play [song name by artist name]" to request a Song.
  • "Stop" to stop the music.
  • "Pause" to pause the music.
  • "What's playing?" to hear what song is playing.
  • "Set volume to [level]" to control the volume.

Make Spotify the default Google Home music player

You can make Spotify the default player so you don’t have to specify “on Spotify” at the end of each voice command. Google Home will give you this option when you ask it to play music. Simply say ‘yes’ to agree!

Alternatively, here are the steps to make Spotify the default player manually:

  1. Download and open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap the menu in the top left and select Devices.
  3. Hit the 3 dots in the top right-hand corner of the Google Home pane to enter the options menu.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Tap Music.
  6. Select Spotify to set as the default music player for your Google Home.
