SongDNA

SongDNA is now available through Spotify for Artists Preview, which gives artists and their teams an opportunity to experience tools before they launch to listeners. SongDNA is an interactive discovery feature for Premium users that enables fans, artists, and fellow creators to dive deeper into the creative team and inspiration behind a song. It appears in the Spotify mobile app, including in the Now Playing view.

You can see SongDNA in the Spotify mobile app if:

If you don’t see it on any songs, force close and reopen the Spotify mobile app.

Viewing SongDNA for a specific track

You can explore SongDNA while listening to a track or from a track’s options menu in the Spotify mobile app.

Opening SongDNA from Now Playing

  1. Play a song in the Spotify mobile app.
  2. Scroll down in Now Playing.
  3. Tap Explore on the SongDNA card.

Opening SongDNA from a track

  1. Go to the track.
  2. Tap the three dots.
  3. Tap Explore SongDNA.

Exploring SongDNA at the artist level

To see all of your collaborators and which of your tracks you’ve collaborated on have SongDNA:

  1. Go to your artist profile in the Spotify mobile app
  2. Tap the 3 dots Display more options underneath your artist name
  3. Select Explore SongDNA

Note: Some artists in Spotify for Artists Preview may not see SongDNA on their own tracks at this time. You can still explore SongDNA on other artists’ tracks in the Spotify mobile app.

Managing SongDNA in Spotify for Artists

Changes made to SongDNA in Spotify for Artists appear only in the SongDNA experience. They don’t affect the credits shown in the Now Playing view or in the View song credits in the Spotify app.

Note: You can only manage SongDNA from Spotify for Artists on desktop.

Managing SongDNA for a track

  1. Log in to Spotify for Artists
  2. Go to Music Open the Music tab
  3. Select a song
  4. Open the SongDNA Beta tab, then click View

You’ll see all components associated with the track and where they come from.

Hiding or showing contributors and song connections

To manage SongDNA within Spotify for Artists, you need to be listed as the main artist on the track.

All artists in Spotify for Artists Preview can:

  • Hide or show third party contributors
  • Hide or show song connections, including samples and interpolation information used in the track from WhoSampled
    Note: If there is a connection missing that you would like to add, you can submit it to WhoSampled by completing a short submission form. If you see information relating to cover versions or samples that you believe is incorrect, you can submit a request for a correction to WhoSampled here.

Changes made in Spotify for Artists appear in SongDNA in the Spotify mobile app within 48 hours.

Contributors delivered by your label or distributor

If you have more than 5,000 monthly active listeners, you can also hide or show individual contributors delivered by your label or distributor.

Note: You can’t hide main artist, featured artist, or remixers listed on your track.

Adding additional contributors

If you have more than 5,000 monthly active listeners, you can:

  • Add a new contributor by searching for the contributor and selecting a role
  • Remove contributors that were previously added in Spotify for Artists

Changes made in Spotify for Artists appear in SongDNA in the Spotify mobile app within 48 hours.

Note: If someone hasn’t been credited on Spotify before, you can’t add them as an additional contributor. Learn more.
