Spotify on Amazon devices

Note: It's not possible to listen offline with Amazon devices.

Amazon speakers

For: Premium

Spotify sounds awesome on Amazon speakers. Use voice commands to control your tunes, have Alexa tell you what’s currently playing, or take control of the music with your phone by using Spotify Connect.

To set up Spotify on your Amazon speaker, you need to link your Spotify account to your Amazon account. You do this either by asking Alexa to play something from Spotify, which will take you through the steps, or:

  1. Open the Alexa app on your phone.
  2. Tap the Menu button in the top-left corner.
  3. Head to Music & Books.
  4. Tap Spotify.
  5. Tap Link account.
  6. Log into Spotify
  7. Tap OKAY.

Note: You can only link one Spotify account to your Amazon account.

Unlink your Spotify account from your Amazon account

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa app.
  2. Tap the Menu button in the top-left corner.
  3. Select Music & Books.
  4. Select Spotify.
  5. Tap Unlink account from Alexa.
  6. Tap Unlink account.

Just say the word! Ask Alexa to play anything by using voice commands.

Note: You can make Spotify the default player. If you don't, you have to specify “on Spotify” at the end of each voice command, or music is played from the default Amazon player.

Other ways to play

  • The Alexa app shows the track currently playing in the Now Playing window. From here, you can play/pause, skip, play the previous track, shuffle, and repeat tracks.
  • Use the Amazon Echo Remote to give voice commands and control audio playback on your Amazon Echo.
  • On your Spotify mobile app, use Spotify Connect to select your Amazon speaker from the device list. When using Connect, you can use basic voice commands like pause and skip to control playback.

Eliminate the need to specify which music player Alexa uses by making Spotify your default player. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa mobile app.
  2. Under Settings, select Customize my music service preferences.
  3. Under My preferred music source, select Spotify.
  4. Tap Done.

You can also make Spotify the default player from your Amazon online account page:

  1. Log in to your Amazon Alexa online account.
  2. Under Music Services, select Choose default music service.
  3. Under Default music library, choose Spotify.
  4. Click Done.

Alexa now automatically uses Spotify as the default player, so there’s no need to specify "on Spotify" with your voice commands.
