Audiobooks in Premium plans
Does Spotify offer audiobooks in its paid subscriptions?
Some Premium plans include hours of listening time per month from our audiobooks subscriber catalog. These plans are:
- Premium Individual
- Premium Family (plan manager only)
- Premium Duo (plan manager only)
For Premium Family and Duo plans, does everyone get audiobook listening time?
Only the plan manager has access to audiobook listening time from our audiobooks subscriber catalog.
However, the plan manager can purchase audiobook listening hours for plan members separately.
What is audiobook listening time?
Audiobook listening time is an allotted amount of time, included on a monthly basis for certain Premium plans, that lets subscribers listen to audiobooks from our audiobooks subscriber catalog. As you listen to any of these audiobooks, the audiobook listening time remaining for that month decreases.
How is audiobook listening time counted?
We count the audiobook listening time used based on each playback of an audiobook at normal speed. This means:
- Adjusting the speed of the playback won’t affect the amount of audiobook listening time included/remaining in your allocation; and
- If you relisten to a book, or part of the book, your allocated audiobook listening time will continue to reduce as normal.
For example, if you listen to a 5-hour audiobook at 2x speed, even if you finish the audiobook in 2.5 hours, your audiobook listening time is reduced by 5 hours since that’s the length of the book at normal speed. If you relisten to the whole book, your audiobook listening time is reduced by another 5 hours.
We may, from time-to-time, adjust the audiobook listening time included in your monthly allocation, and we will provide reasonable notice to you in advance of such changes.
Does audiobook listening time expire?
Your plan’s unused audiobook listening time expires on a monthly basis.
At the start of your next billing period:
- We renew the hours of audiobook listening time included in your plan; and
- Any unused audiobook listening time from the previous month can no longer be used.
Note: We don’t offer refunds for unused or expired audiobook listening time.
If you’ve run out of audiobook listening time in your plan, or you just want more time to listen, you can purchase audiobook listening hours.
How do I know how much audiobook listening time I have left?
You can check how much audiobook listening time is left in the plan and how long before your listening hours are renewed.
Mobile
- Tap your profile picture.
- Tap Settings and privacy.
- Go to Account and tap the name of your plan. This shows you the plan overview.
- Select Track your included hours and top ups.
Desktop
- Log in to your account page.
- Under Subscription, select Audiobook Listening Time.
Note: There might be some delays in tracking the audiobook listening time you’ve used if you pause your listening mid-chapter, or you’re offline for an extended period of time.
What are top-ups?
If you’ve fully consumed your plan’s monthly allotted time, you can continue listening to audiobooks by purchasing top-ups.
- Your additional listening top-up hours are valid for 12 months from the purchase date
- Multiple top-ups can be added to your account
Note: You must be subscribed to any of the following to use your top-up hours:
- Premium Individual
- Premium Family
- Premium Duo
If you cancel your subscription, you’ll no longer have access to your top-up hours unless you resubscribe within 12 months of purchasing the top-up. Your top-up hours will still be subject to their original expiration date.
If I have audiobook listening time and top-up hours, what gets used first?
For: Premium Individual and Family/Duo managers
Top-ups are valid for 12 months from the purchase date.
Your top-ups are deducted once you’ve used up the monthly audiobook hours from your plan. When your monthly audiobook listening time refreshes:
- Your audiobook listening consumption will revert to being drawn from the new listening time allotted to you; and
- Any unused top-up hours will continue to be available when your plan’s audiobook listening time is used up.
What is the refund policy for top-ups?
For more information on our refund policy, you can check our Refund policy for purchased audiobook listening hours. Other Terms and Conditions apply.
Why can’t I find a book?
The titles available in our audiobooks subscriber catalog may vary from time-to-time at Spotify’s or a third party rightsholder’s discretion. As a result, the titles in our audiobooks subscriber catalog may not be the same as those available for purchase on Spotify.
Our catalog and access may also vary between countries. You can always explore titles in the same genre or by the same author to find something similar.
