Why am I not hearing any sound on Spotify?

Pressed play but not hearing any sound from Spotify? Here are a few things we’d recommend checking.

  • Volume settings - Sometimes devices have multiple volume settings. See the steps below for how to check the volume settings on your device.
  • Audio hardware - Are your speakers switched on? Are your headphones fully inserted? Is all of your audio hardware functioning properly? To test this, try playing from an alternative source or device.
  • Up-to-date software - Check that all software, including the app, is up to date. For computers, also check your soundcard driver software. If you’re playing on the web player, check for any browser updates.
  • It’s possible that you’re playing on another device via Spotify Connect. Head to DEVICES AVAILABLE and select the correct device to play on.
  • Spotify can only be played on one device at a time. Is your account being used elsewhere? If so, follow these steps to sign off all devices.
  • System issue - If there’s a system issue, you might receive an error message. This will be displayed in a blue bar at the top of the app, or you can check your device notifications.

If the problem persists after these checks, a full reinstall should fix it. Just follow the steps here.
