Family Mix

Family Mix is a playlist that combines music you and the other members of your Premium Family plan listen to. It comes preloaded based on genres, artists, and songs you’ve all played on your own, and updates the more you play.

Get started

When you sign up to Premium Family, you have the option to join Family Mix.

There are 3 ways to find Family Mix:

  • On desktop and mobile apps in Home , under Made For You
  • In Search.
  • Or, if you have a voice controlled speaker, you can simply ask to play Family Mix!

Then you just have to tap  (Android) /  (iPhone), and select Join Family Mix.

Note: Family Mix needs to get to know you first. If you’re new to Spotify, it might take around 2 weeks of listening before it fills with songs based on your music taste.

Tune the mix

For: Family Mix on mobile.

Family Mix is filled with music the whole family can enjoy together. But it can also be tuned to match the taste of particular Family members when you’re not listening together.

To manage who’s music taste Family Mix is based on, tap  (Android) /  (iPhone) in the top-right of your Family Mix, then tap Manage Users.

And you can tune the mix even further to match the mood:

  • Tap CHILL  for an easy listening and laidback tempo. Tap again to return to the standard mix.
  • Tap UPBEAT  to increase the tempo of the mix. Tap again to return to the standard mix.

Profile pictures are displayed on each song in the mix to show which members of the plan it’s generated from, but only people in your Family plan can see this.

Family Mix relies on frequent updates to keep getting better, so it’s not possible to listen offline. You can save tracks from the mix, and listen to those offline.

Note: This setting is only available on mobile devices, but applies across all devices.

To remove explicit songs based on your music taste from Family Mix, tap  (Android) /  (iPhone) on your mix, then Remove your explicit songs. This is reflected on the other member’s account when it next updates for them.

This only removes the explicit songs based on your music taste. To disable all explicit songs, check out explicit content.

Note: This setting is only available on mobile devices, but applies across all devices.

To opt out, tap  (Android) /  (iPhone) on your Family Mix, then Leave Family Mix. This removes songs generated by your listening habits from the mix. Songs generated by the other plan member’s listening habits will remain.

After opting out, you’ll still be able to see and play Family Mix. You can rejoin any time by tapping Join Family Mix
