Playlist features

Make the most out of your playlists with customizable features.

Note: Desktop app required

Give your playlists the personal touch by adding cover images, descriptions, and even links to websites.

  1. Click the playlist image.
  2. In the Edit view, enter a playlist name and description.
  3. Click CHOOSE IMAGE to upload a new cover image, or REPLACE IMAGE to replace an existing image.
  4. Click SAVE.

Note: Images must be uploaded as a .jpeg file, with a maximum file size of 4MB, and must not violate copyright, trademark, or personal image rights. For more information, check out our playlist image guidelines.

Stuck for ideas on what tracks to add to your Spotify playlist? Recommended Songs help you expand your playlists with relevant and varied suggestions based on the playlist’s title and current track listings.

  1. Create a playlist.
    Tip: If you want Recommended Songs based on your playlist’s title, give it a recognizable name (e.g. Workout, Running, Chill Out, etc.)
  2. Find Recommended Songs at the bottom of the playlist.
  3. To add a Recommended Song to your playlist, click ADD. On mobile, tap the Add to Playlist button .
  4. Hit REFRESH to receive a fresh set of recommendations.

Note: Recommended Songs are only available on playlists you create yourself and collaborative playlists.

You can make your personal playlists public so that anyone on Spotify can search for, listen to, and follow them. Or you can make them private so only you can see and hear them.

Desktop and web player

  1. Right-click the playlist.
  2. Select Make public or Make Secret.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Tap  in the top-right corner of the playlist.
  2. Select Make public or Make Secret.

Android

  1. Tap  in the top-right corner of the playlist.
  2. Select Make public or Make Secret.

  1. Click  in the top-right corner of the desktop app.
  2. Under Social, switch on/off Automatically make new playlists public.

Playlist folders are a great way to organize your playlists. You need to use the desktop app to make them, but they show up on your mobile devices too.

  1. Right-click a playlist in the menu on the left of the desktop app.
  2. Select Create folder.
  3. Give it a name and press enter.

You can drag playlists to a folder and even create folders within folders.
