Connecting Spotify with Google Cast

Google Cast lets you play, or “cast”, Spotify from your phone or tablet to a TV, speaker, or stereo. If your TV, speaker, or stereo system doesn’t have Google Cast built-in, you can easily upgrade it with a Chromecast or Chromecast Audio device.

Note: It’s not possible to play local files or use the web player with Google Cast.

FAQs

If you’re having trouble with Spotify and your Chromecast, please check the following:

  • You have the latest firmware installed on your Chromecast device.
  • Your device is connected to the same WiFi network as your Chromecast.
  • You’re using the app in a country where Spotify is available.
  • You have the latest version of Spotify installed.

Chromecast Audio is currently only available for Spotify Premium subscribers. We're working with Google to see if we can bring the experience to more Cast-enabled devices.

You will not see the Chromecast icon like you typically would on other apps. This is because Spotify actually uses Spotify Connect to cast from your mobile or tablet. To get started, follow the steps for your device above.

It’s currently not possible to discover a Chromecast device from the desktop app. Use a mobile/tablet to discover and launch Spotify on Chromecast. Once running, use Spotify Connect to control playback from any device, including desktop.

If you have Guest Mode enabled on your Chromecast, nearby devices can connect to it without having to join your WiFi network. So it’s great for when you’ve got friends over.

See the Guest Mode FAQs for more information.
