Trouble switching your show's hosting to Spotify for Creators

If you’re moving your show to Spotify for Creators and notice missing episodes, RSS feed errors, or gaps in analytics, the sections below explain why this can happen and what to do next.

Missing episodes before or after importing

When you attempt to import your episodes into Spotify for Creators, you’ll be shown how many episodes are brought over. If that number looks off or episodes are missing, check the following:

  • Check if your host limits your episode count: Some hosting platforms limit how many episodes you can include in your feed. Check your account settings to see if you can increase this number, or contact your old host and ask about including more episodes in your feed.
  • Check if affected episodes are taken down from your RSS feed: You or your host may have removed an episode from your RSS feed. Check to make sure that episode is available in your old host and distributed to your old host’s RSS feed.
  • Check if an episode is affected by a Spotify guidelines or terms violation: It’s possible an existing episode from your old host may have been affected by a violation of Spotify’s Platform Rules or other guidelines. You may need to follow the appropriate appeal path to restore an affected episode.

After making any changes on your old host, you may need to refresh your RSS feed or website to display any missing episodes. In Spotify for Creators, you’ll then need to re-import your RSS feed.

Inaccessible feed

If your RSS feed URL doesn't load or leads to a 404 error, we won't be able to import your episodes to Spotify for Creators.

Confirm you have the correct URL. Make sure you’re using your show's RSS feed rather than the link to its public profile page.

Validation errors

If there's something in your RSS feed that shouldn't be there, or if your feed is incorrectly formatted, you may see a validation error.

Use a tool like Cast Feed Validator or Podba.se Validator to check for errors in your feed, and follow the advice shown in the validation tool to fix them.

If you’re still seeing issues with your RSS feed, contact your original hosting platform for further support.

301 redirects

If your old host doesn’t support 301 feed redirects, we can help you complete your switch to Spotify for Creators.

First, make sure you’ve completed all these steps:

  1. Import your episodes to Spotify for Creators
  2. Contact your old host to double check they don’t offer 301 redirects.
  3. Add links to your show's listing on other platforms via Settings > Availability.
  4. Contact each platform that your show is on and ask them to update your RSS feed to your new Spotify for Creators one.

Once you’ve completed the steps above, let us know. We’ll then break the connection with your old host.

After we break the connection, you can close your account with your old host.

Missing analytics

Analytics in Spotify for Creators only include data from after you switched hosts.

We recommend downloading analytics from your old hosting platform for your own safekeeping to have analytics from before your switch.

Check with your hosting provider to confirm if they offer ways to download your analytics from their platform.
