Thumbnails

A thumbnail is an image that acts as the cover of your video.

Eye-catching thumbnails can make your videos stand out, increase engagement, and improve the chances of people pressing play.

You can choose from our auto-generated thumbnails or upload your own.

Note: Thumbnails are only displayed for videos and appear in the Spotify mobile app on your show page, episode page and in search results. Audio episodes feature your episode or show artwork instead.

You can choose your thumbnail during or after uploading your video on Spotify for Creators web.

During video upload

On web:

  1. Log in to Spotify for Creators
  2. Click New Episode.
  3. Choose Select a file to upload your video and hit Next.
  4. On the Details page, under Thumbnail, select the video frame you’d like to use or hit Upload to choose your own.
Note: To delete a thumbnail you’ve uploaded, click the X in the corner of the image.
  5. Hit Next to continue publishing your video.

If you choose to upload your own thumbnail, your image needs to meet the following requirements:

Tips for choosing a great thumbnail

  • Keep it simple: Make sure your image is clear and not cluttered.
  • Use high-quality images: High-resolution images look more professional and appealing.
  • Be consistent: If you have a series, try to use a consistent style or theme for all thumbnails.
