How comments are moderated

We use automated tools that rely on a combination of signals to detect content that may violate our Platform Rules.

Learn more about our Platform Rules

Comments that are detected as potentially harmful or inappropriate are marked as sensitive. Sensitive comments aren’t automatically published to your episode or video. Instead, they’re held for you to review.

Comments that aren’t flagged as sensitive or violative and don’t contain words on your block list are auto-published. You can delete comments at any time

At this time, auto-publishing is only available for English comments. We hope to expand to other languages in future.

Choosing your moderation level

While we work to enforce against content that potentially violates Spotify’s Platform Rules, you can also choose the level of sensitive but non-violating content you wish to see on your episodes and videos.

You can choose:

  • Low: All comments are automatically published to your episode or video.
  • Standard (default): Potentially harmful or inappropriate comments are held for you to review. All other comments are automatically published to your episode or video.
  • High: All comments are held for you to review. No comments are automatically published to your episode or video.

On web:

  1. Log in to creators.spotify.com
  2. Click Comments icon Comments.
  3. Select Icon for Settings Settings.
  4. Click Moderation.

On the Spotify for Creators mobile app:

  1. Tap your show avatar.
  2. Tap Settings then your show name.
  3. Select Comments.
  4. Tap Moderation.

Reviewing sensitive comments

Go to Comments icon Comments then Needs Review.

Select:

  • Icon for approving to approve a comment
  • Icon for liking to like a comment
  • Reply to leave a response

Comments you like or reply to are also approved and will be published on your episode or video.

Blocking words and phrases

You can also block comments containing certain words and phrases.

Go to Comments icon Comments, then select Icon for Settings Settings and Blocked words and phrases.

Tips for blocking words and phrases:

  • You can add up to 20 words or phrases to your block list
  • Separate words or phrases with a comma to add multiple terms at once
  • You can also add emojis to your block list
  • There’s a limit of 40 characters per word or phrase, including spaces
  • The block list currently only supports Latin script and emojis

To review comments containing your blocked words or phrases:

On web:

  1. Go to Podcast icon Episodes and select an episode or video.
  2. Tap Comments then Icon for Settings Settings.
  3. Select View blocked comments.

On the Spotify for Creators mobile app:

  1. Go to Comments icon Comments and tap an episode or video.
  2. Tap the 3 dots at the top of the screen.
  3. Select View blocked comments.

Replying or reacting to a blocked comment publishes it to your episode or video.
