I need help with my downloads

Anything you download can be found in Your Library. The Downloded symbol  indicates the content has been successfully downloaded.

Tip: Switch to Offline Mode to play only downloaded content. Select your device to find out how. Anything you haven’t downloaded is grayed out and unavailable.

If your music or podcasts won’t download:

  • Check your device isn’t in sleep mode.
  • Make sure there’s enough free space on the device’s memory (we recommend at least 1GB).
  • Your device must have an active internet connection.
  • You can only download music and podcasts to a maximum of 5 separate devices (see "Manage your offline devices" below).
  • You can only download a maximum of 10,000 songs per device. If you get an error message that says you’ve reached this limit, try removing some existing downloads.
  • You need an active Premium subscription. Find out how to check your subscription status.
  • Make sure your account has been online at least once within the last 30 days.
  • Podcasts and albums aren’t available to download on desktop.

First, check the download status. The Download symbol  indicates the download was successful.

Note: You need to re-download your music after reinstalling the app.

There are a few possible reasons why your downloads might be removed:

  • You've downloaded music to more than 5 devices.
  • You haven't been online with Spotify at least once in the last 30 days.
  • If you've recently reinstalled the app.
  • Your Spotify app needs updating
  • Your SD card (if your device has one) has become compromised (dislodged, corrupted, etc.)
  • The content's no longer available on Spotify.
  • Tracks in some playlists are updated regularly, meaning tracks might be removed.

If your tracks won't stay downloaded to your device, we recommend removing all your active offline devices (see "Manage your active offline devices" below), then reinstall the app before downloading the tracks again.

Premium subscribers must go online with Spotify at least once every 30 days. This is so Spotify can check your subscription is still active and count track plays to compensate artists.

If you don’t go online with Spotify at least once every 30 days, any tracks you’ve downloaded for offline listening are automatically removed from your device.

You can download Spotify tracks for offline listening on up to 5 devices at a time.

If you want to download music to a 6th device, you have these options:

  • When you download to the additional device, the device with the earliest downloads is automatically removed from the Offline devices list. The tracks on this device will no longer be downloaded for offline listening.
  • Before you download to the additional device, manually remove a device from the Offline devices list. The tracks on this device will no longer be downloaded for offline listening.
