Using automatic chapters

Spotify can automatically generate descriptive episode chapter labels and timestamps for you. Adding chapters to your episodes can increase engagement with both your existing audience and potential new listeners and viewers.

Chapters you added yourself show instead of the automatically generated chapters. This means you can choose to have automatically and manually created chapters on different episodes.

Note: We’re currently rolling out automatic chapters to all listeners on Spotify so you might not see them on your episodes just yet. You can add your own chapters in the meantime. Learn more.

Viewing and editing automatic chapters

You can view your automatically generated chapters and edit their titles in Spotify for Creators web.

We currently only support the feature for languages that use the Latin script, but we're working towards supporting more scripts soon!

Note: It’s not possible to edit the timestamps of automatic chapters in Spotify for Creators.

On web:

1. Log in to creators.spotify.com.
2. Go to Episodes and click the episode with chapters you want to view or edit.
3. Go to Details and under Only on Spotify find Chapters, then click Edit.
4. To edit a title, click the pencil icon on the chapter row.
5. Click Save to confirm your changes.
6. Once you’ve finished updating your titles, click Save again in the chapters editor.

Turning chapters on or off

You can turn off automatic chapters for individual episodes or for your whole show.

For individual episodes

1. Log in to creators.spotify.com.
2. Go to Episodes and click the episode with chapters you want to view or edit.
3. On to the episode Details tab and under Only on Spotify find Chapters.
4. Click Edit.
5. Under Auto-generated chapters, toggle on or off, then Save.

For your whole show

For shows hosted with Spotify

On web:

1. Log in to creators.spotify.com.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Scroll down to Only on Spotify.
4. Toggle Chapters on or off.

For shows hosted elsewhere

On web:

1. Log in to creators.spotify.com.
2. Click Settings.
3. Next to Chapters click Update.
