Understanding my data

When you use the automated Download your data tool, you will receive several files in JSON format. JSON stands for JavaScript Object Notation, and is a structured, commonly used format that is capable of being understood by both computers and human beings. You may download three different packages of data, either separately or all at once. The packages will include a copy of the following data (if applicable to you).

Account data

What's included

Playlist

A summary of the playlists created or saved, and any songs saved, including:

  1. Name of playlist.
  2. Date the playlist was last modified.
  3. Names of songs contained within the playlist.
  4. Names of artists for each song.
  5. Names of albums or episodes (if podcasts).
  6. Local track name, if the user uploaded locally saved audio to be played on Spotify service.
  7. Any descriptions added by the user to the playlist.
  8. The number of followers the playlist has.

Streaming History (audio, video, and podcasts)

A list of items (e.g. songs, videos, and podcasts) listened to or watched in the past year, including:

  • Date and time of when the stream ended in UTC format (Coordinated Universal Time zone).
  • Name of "creator" for each stream (e.g. the artist name if a music track).
  • Name of items listened to or watched (e.g. title of music track or name of video).
  • “msPlayed”- Stands for how many mili-seconds the track was listened to.

Your Library

A summary (at the point of the date of the request) of the content saved in Your Library (songs, episodes, shows, artists, and albums), including:

  1. Entity names.
  2. Album & Show names.
  3. Creators.
  4. Item’s Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs).

Search queries

A list of searches made, including:

  1. The date and time the search was made.
  2. Type of device/platform used (such as iOS, desktop).
  3. Search Query shows what the user typed in the search field.
  4. Search interaction URIs shows the list of Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI) of the search results the user interacted with.

Follow

This includes (where available) at the point of the request:

  1. The number of followers the account has.
  2. The number of other accounts this account is following.
  3. The number of other accounts this account is blocking.

Payments

This includes details of the payment method (where available):

  1. Type - The card type e.g. Mastercard, Visa etc, or other form of payment such as a Gift Card, PayPal.
  2. Card Number - Where the payment method is via card, this is the last four digits only.
  3. Card Expiry - Where the payment method is via card, this is the four digit expiry date (e.g. 07/18).
  4. Creation Date - The date the payment details were provided to Spotify.
  5. Payment Country - The country where the card was issued e.g. United Kingdom, Sweden.
  6. Postal Code - The postal code the card is registered to.

User Data

This includes (where available):

  1. Spotify username.
  2. Email address.
  3. Country.
  4. Created from Facebook - This shows true if the account was created via Facebook.
  5. Facebook user ID - This is included if the user has turned on Facebook data processing and linked their Spotify account by signing in using Facebook log-in or created their Spotify account via Facebook.
  6. Preferred locale.
  7. Date of birth.
  8. Gender.
  9. Postal code.
  10. Postal address.
  11. Mobile number.
  12. Mobile operator.
  13. Mobile brand.
  14. Account creation - This is the user’s date of registration.

Customer Service History

If you have been in contact with our customer service team as an identified Spotify user, your files will include a copy of that contact correspondence.

Family Plan

Family plan data (if you own a Premium for Family plan) which includes your address, city, country, name, state, street, and postal code.

Inferences

We draw certain inferences about your interests and preferences based on your usage of the Spotify service and using data obtained from our advertisers and other advertising partners. This includes a list of market segments with which you are currently associated. Depending on your settings, this data may be used to serve interest-based advertising to you within the Spotify service.

Voice Input

A list of commands made by voice (where available), including:

  1. The date and time the command was made.
  2. Language requested by the client.
  3. User catalogue shows what subscription type the user has.
  4. The transcribed voice utterance of the command.
  5. Language set by the client.
  6. Entity type shows the Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) of the item (e.g. playlist, album, track) returned.
  7. Country.

Podcast Interactivity

A list of interactions (such as comments) made to an interactivity feature of the podcast, including:

  1. The date and time the interaction was made.
  2. The text and/or content of the interaction.

Spotify for Artists

If you have a Spotify for Artist (S4A) account, additional data you’ve provided in your S4A account will be listed. This may include your business email address, your title and/or what role you have for a particular artist or licensor (i.e., manager, composer, publicist, etc.), and the name of your employer.

Extended streaming history

Extended Streaming History (audio, video, and podcasts)

A list of items (e.g. songs, videos, and podcasts) listened to or watched during the lifetime of your account, including the following details:

  1. Date and time of when the stream ended in UTC format (Coordinated Universal Time zone).
  2. Your Spotify username.
  3. Platform used when streaming the track (e.g. Android OS, Google Chromecast).
  4. For how many milliseconds the track was played.
  5. Country code of the country where the stream was played.
  6. IP address used when streaming the track.
  7. User agent used when streaming the track (e.g. a browser, like Mozilla Firefox, or Safari).
  8. Name of the track.
  9. Name of the artist, band or podcast.
  10. Name of the album of the track.
  11. A Spotify Track URI, that is identifying the unique music track.
  12. Name of the episode of the podcast.
  13. Name of the show of the podcast.
  14. A Spotify Episode URI, that is identifying the unique podcast episode.
  15. Reason why the track started (e.g. previous track finished or you picked it from the playlist).
  16. Reason why the track ended (e.g. the track finished playing or you hit the next button).
  17. Whether shuffle mode was used when playing the track.
  18. Information whether the user skipped to the next song.
  19. Information whether the track was played in offline mode.
  20. Timestamp of when offline mode was used, if it was used.
  21. Information whether the track was played during a private session.

Look for the "Read Me First - Extended Streaming History" file provided with your data for a detailed description of each technical field that corresponds to the data described above.

Technical Log Information

The Technical Log Information contains detailed technical data such as commands, error messages, and log strings that we have collected about your account in order to provide and troubleshoot the Spotify service.

Look for the “Read Me First - Technical Log Information” file provided with your data for a detailed description of the technical log information. This file is provided by default in English, but you can always contact our customer support (privacy@spotify.com) if you need help understanding this data in your local language.
