Spotify Lite

Spotify Lite is a simplified version of the Spotify app available on Android, that was designed for listeners looking for a version that uses less storage, data, and battery.

We have made the decision to sunset the Lite app for users across a number of markets. Since launching Lite in 2019, we’ve seen a growing number of users having access to smartphones and more affordable data plans, meaning the need for the app has changed.

Spotify Lite will be retired over the coming month, in some markets. All users will receive notifications in the app ahead of time along with instructions on how to download the main Spotify app. In the meantime, you can enjoy a lightweight experience of Spotify via Mobile Web Player.

We know that a significant amount of Lite users are interested in exploring the main app and the wide set of features and experiences including Spotify’s extensive audio catalog, Collaborative Playlists, Spotify Mixes, Discover Weekly or Blend. Over the years we’ve made important improvements to the main app, providing a better overall experience and we’ll continue to work to ensure the app works best for all users.

Which markets are affected?

Australia, Bahrain, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Chad, Cameroon, Comoros, Dominican Republic, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Liberia, Namibia, Nepal, Niger, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Oman, Qatar, Romania, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, and Zimbabwe

How to start using the main Spotify app?

  1. Go to your Google Play Store, search for Spotify and download the Spotify app.
Or you can download the Spotify app through this link.
  2. Login with the same login details to access your favorite tracks, playlists, and much more.
Note: If your device doesn't meet the minimum system requirements, upgrade it to install the Spotify app.

How can I limit data usage on the Spotify app?

Spotify users can reduce data usage by enabling Data Saver. Data Saver reduces the app’s data usage by showing fewer images and reducing audio quality. To enable it simply switch on Data Saver from your settings.
